Abstract
Cosmeceuticals are products that combine cosmetic and pharmaceutical properties, offering both aesthetic enhancement and therapeutic benefits for skin health. They contain biologically active ingredients that help prevent skin aging, pigmentation, oxidative damage, and other degenerative skin conditions. This review summarizes the historical development of cosmetics, classification of cosmeceuticals, major active compounds such as antioxidants, retinoids, sunscreens, peptides, and moisturizers, and their role in skin protection and rejuvenation. Current market trends, scope, and growth of the cosmeceutical industry—particularly in India—are also highlighted. The increasing demand for scientifically proven and clinically validated cosmeceuticals emphasizes their importance in modern dermatological and pharmaceutical applications.
